Medical care for women & children in Bethlehem

Our family wanted to choose a charity in the Middle East to support this Lent; our hearts have been breaking in particular for the children and mothers experiencing escalating hardships in the region.

We have chosen to support Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem with any money we save from our fasting this Lent, and from any donations we receive via this campaign from anyone who wants to sponsor our family's litter picking efforts here at home in England.

Here is some information about the hospital, which is providing vital care via the main hospital and mobile units in the area:

"At Holy Family Hospital of Bethlehem, caring for mothers and babies is the way to peace and understanding in a country in crisis. And no mother is every turned away.

The hospital serves as a maternity and critical care facility for Bethlehem and surrounding areas, and is known for compassionate high-quality care and a preference for the poor. Half of the patients are refugees. It provides the maternity care and delivery needs of Holy Land families regardless of their ability to pay and it is the only hospital in the region that can deliver and care for babies born before 34 weeks. It regularly treats babies as small as one pound and other high-risk pregnancies."

To help our children (and ourselves!) feel more engaged in the process of raising money for this cause, we have decided to go on weekly litter picking walks as a family throughout February and March.
