Emily's Story

In February 2017, Emily Suess was diagnosed with brain cancer. (A grade II diffuse astrocytoma on her brain stem.) Forced to quit her 9 to 5 as a technical copywriter, Emily underwent brain surgery to biopsy the tumor and radiation and chemotherapy to try and beat it into submission. It shrank a little, but the damn thing is still sitting there and considered inoperable. Now new medical mysteries await diagnosis as a series of health problems leave her mostly bedbound, anxious, and facing medical bankruptcy.

After the craniotomy it was relatively quiet for a while, but Emily's body is stressed, and at the moment it has doctors befuddled. A systematic swelling of lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy) has lead to new doctors, new experimental meds, and three biopsies since 2022 -- two needle biopsies and one surgical.

Now with the node on her lung that showed up during a CT to check on those lymph nodes, another biopsy will be required. All of these medical procedures are expensive, and while insurance covers some of the costs, it doesn't cover them all.

Your donations help cover the cost of outstanding bills, co-pays, meals, and travel.

Not everyone who wants to donate can, though. That's the harsh reality. That's why campaign shares via social media are so important and so greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for supporting Emily and Dan!
