Mecadon Goes to South Africa
Donation protected
My name is Mecadon McCune. I attend Science Park High School, a magnet school for mathematics and science in Newark, NJ. I enjoy reading, playing basketball, and participating in both Jazz and Marching Band. I am an adventurous young man who has aspirations of traveling to South Africa with People to People International Travel Programs in July of 2020. For over 60 years, People to People International Travel Programs has provided immersive and educational travel programs for thousands of American students. If I am able to reach my fundraising goal, I, along with other teens from my local travel delegation, will gain a deep understanding of South Africa, its turbulent political history, its spectacular natural wonders, and its rich culture.
Our program includes visiting the infamous Robben Island prison, where Nelson Mandela was held for over twenty years. We will make a positive contribution to a variety of community projects, one of which is the Rastafarian Community Outreach Center located in the township of Knysna. I will visit Johannesburg and Cape Town. I will also be able to go out on safari!
With the intention to invest in my future, and the future of our community, I am seeking financial assistance from the local area for my educational program. I have had two successful fundraisers and will continue fundraising with various events in the coming months.
