WHAT IS MEASURE FOR MEASURE?

Vincentio, the Duke of Vienna,  leaves the city on a diplomatic mission and places the government in the hands of Angelo. A holy man and strict judge, Angelo begins enforcing antiquated laws and cracks down on the people of Vienna. Claudio, brother to the novice Isabella, is imprisoned by Angelo for impregnating his fiance. On the eve of taking her final vows, Isabella is told that her brother will be executed. When she goes to ask for Claudio's freedom, Angelo provides her with a option - if you have sex with me, your brother will not die. A story of hypocrisy and the corruption of 'good' men in power, Measure for Measure is as relevant in the USA in 2017 as it was in 1603.

WHY THIS PRODUCTION?

Theatre is the conversation and Shakespeare is still being performed over 400 years later for a reason -- these stories are relevant.

Focusing on the language, this production will dive into the similarities between the given circumstances of the play and the current state of our political affairs and the treatment of women in the USA. Measure for Measure not only presents a stark mirror for our society, but a heroine with all of the complexities of a modern woman.

FUNDING (or, where is my money going?)

In all of its many aspects, theatre is a group effort!

- $1,000 will be set aside for our wonderful cast who will be spending 100 hours in rehearsal over the month of July and the beginning of August. This does not include the work they do on their own.

- $1,000 will be set aside for our stage manager, lighting designer, and sound designer. Our production is built on light and sound. This means that they will literally be creating a set out of thin air.

- Roughly $1,500 is for rehearsal space. Those 100 hours have to happen somewhere and my living room is a little too small for a cast of 10 people! Fun fact: We are getting a 40% discount on space!

- Roughly $500 will be used for costume pieces, props, and marketing costs, such as postcards and facebook ads. We can't wait to sell tickets!
