The McLaughlin Driving Scholarship

Driving future opportunities within our community

A group of local Driving Instructors  have set up the McLaughlin Driving Scholarship, the aim of which is to fund driving lessons from beginners stage through to passing their driving test for people in our community. Pupils will be chosen by community group leaders and nominated pupils should be able to demonstrate how a driving licence will enhance their lives and create opportunities for them that would not currently be available to them due to financial constraints.

We have named the Scholarship after our friend and colleague George McLaughlin, who sadly passed away in May 2020.  Its main aim is to offer people the life skill of learning to drive at the same time enhancing their self confidence, improving their practiacal abilities, comminication skills and improving future employment prospects.

An average lesson costs around £30 per hour, with the DSA reccomending an average of 40/50 hours needed per pupil to achieve test standard. Our local Instructors have donated at least an hours tuition fee which has given us a great start, and hopefully now with your donation, whatever the amount, we can push towards taking on another pupil and enhancing their life.

Thank you so much for donating and giving a young person a step up and opportunities in their life.
