McDowell Arts and Culture Center
Tax deductible
The Jack Caffrey Arts and Culture Center, located in downtown Welch, has been given a gift of $55,000 from a local donor but only if we can match the gift with $5,000 in other donations! We need these funds by 5/15/19. We need 500 people to give $10.
McDowell County FACES serves as the Family Resource Network for the County and has agreed to be the fundraising center for the local match of $5,000.
The Jack Caffrey Arts and Culture Center operated by the City of Welch
The mission of the Jack Caffrey Arts and Culture Center is to remember our past, reawaken our heritage and reimagine our future through arts and education.
Help us meet our match and secure a $55,000 Grant to help with Operations! We must raise $5000 to secure $55,000 from a private donor. We need 500 people to give $10 by May 15th. Donors will be recognized during the grand opening June 7-9, 2019.
Located at 143 Wyoming Street in downtown Welch, WV, the project consists of a second level renovation and reuse of approximately 7,500 square feet. Originally a Post Office, and later an automobile dealership, the historic structure greets visitors with a two-story interior made of exposed brick masonry walls, polished concrete floors, and large-span steel Pratt trusses supporting the roof. Large, existing window openings were replaced with new aluminum storefront glazing allowing an abundance of natural light into the space. The roof was replaced with a new membrane protecting and preserving the structure for many years to come. A second exit stair was uncovered and enclosed improving the health, safety, and welfare of the building occupants.
We plan for this to be the arts and cultural hub of McDowell County. We have laid the ground work, created a wonderful structure and now we need just a little more local support to push us over the top!
