MCA Outdoor Seating - Landscaping Eagle Proj. T399

The Muslim Community Association of the San Francisco Bay Area, the organization that charters our Scout Troop 399, is currently blessed with a large presence and great facilities, where Muslims of all backgrounds and ages can pray, interact, and develop as a community. Currently though, the main building lacks a well-defined outdoor sitting area for the community to make use of, and the benches that are present rest upon rough, dirt patches that outline the premises.

As a Life Scout in Troop 399, I will be taking one step closer to the Eagle Rank by initiating my project, which will remodel one such area, a ~390 ft^2 stretch of dirt near the bustling cafeteria, to develop it into a more presentable outdoor setting.

After weeding, the project will add pavers under two pre-existing park benches, and a decomposed granite walkway connecting them, all to beautify an area for people looking to relax or eat under the shade of nearby redwood trees. In addition, planted areas will sport native California ground covers and tall grasses to add greenery, while requiring no artificial irrigation.

By improving the building's outdoor setting, this project will make an already popular location more conducive for regular use, and easier on the eyes. The project will also act as an example for future initiatives looking to make an impact in our community--from our growing Troop and beyond.
