One year ago, I reached out to Kristy Dees and asked if she'd be willing to let me offer Life Lessons with Horses to my students of equine experiential education and life coaching at her place, Healing Hearts Ranch. We first met there several years ago, when I attended a Centered Riding Instructor Update Clinic. In 2011 Kristy created a nonprofit called Heart Strides, inspired by the profound impact therapeutic riding had on her daughter’s mental and physical development after being born with Down’s syndrome.

“Though the organization started out providing therapeutic riding to children and adults with disabilities, Kristy quickly found that working with horses also deepened her own recovery and ability to heal from addiction, trauma and mental health challenges. The horses taught her powerful life lessons that allowed her to improve the quality of her life, relationships and her recovery.”
Over the last 12 months, in addition to supporting the growth of my own business, Kristy has allowed me to join her and Hanna and the amazing herd as a volunteer at Healing Hearts during weekly gatherings of various programs she offers to the community. Her kindness and compassion know no bounds and her heart is full of love for the growing number of youth, families and veterans whose lives have been touched by her generosity. Her dedication to her work and commitment to the gentle care of horse and human has inspired me to be a better teacher, coach and human being. I am so grateful for all of her help. Thank you Kristy!
