Hace más de dos años mi papá fue diagnosticado con cáncer de pulmón de células pequeñas y se le dio seis meses para vivir.
Después de hacer algunas rondas de quimioterapia, los médicos determinaron que su cáncer se estaba moviendo lentamente y dijo que posiblemente podría vivir muchos años con él.
Hace un año las cosas empezaron a complicarse para él. Comenzó con un coágulo de sangre, luego comenzó a sufrir de presión arterial alta, luego fluido en sus pulmones y líquido alrededor de su corazón.
Hace un mes su colon perforó. El médico dijo que moriría si no se sometiera a una cirugía y si tenía la cirugía, sus posibilidades de sobrevivir eran escasas a ninguna.

After doing some rounds of chemo the doctors determined his cancer was moving slowly and said he could possibly live many years with it.
About a year ago things started to get more complicated for him. It started with a blood clot, then he started suffering from high blood pressure, then fluid in his lungs and fluid around his heart.
A month ago his colon perforated. The doctor said that he would die if he didn't have surgery and if he did have the surgery, his chances of surviving were slim to none.
My dad decided to take chances and had the surgery done. He had part of his intestines removed and had a colostomy done. The surgery went as well as it could but he still had to be put on life support.
He has been hospitalized for over a month now with little to no progress.
He started having a high temp a few days ago which alarmed the doctors and they ordered scans.
The scans showed that his colon perforated once again and this time there was nothing they could do.
The decision was made to put him out of the suffering and take him off life support.
The doctor stopped all of his medications, one of which was his blood pressure medication. The doctor said without it, he would pass away within a few hours.
We all sat next to him for seven hours waiting for him to pass. The doctor and nurses were surprised to see that his heart was still going.
The doctor said the next step was to take him off the ventilator, which they had left on just for him to be comfortable until his passing.
The doctor said he would pass within an hour since he was not able to breathe on his own and we all sat there next to him again, waiting for him to pass.
A day later and here we are, in shock that he is still breathing on his own, something he was not able to do when he was doing better.
At this moment all of his organs are shutting down and he is starting to have a harder time breathing.
He is having a hard time letting himself go but it's just a matter of time.
My dad and mom haven't worked for many years but my siblings and I have financially supported them.
At this moment we have a lot of medical bills to take care of and funeral expenses to look forward to.
