Maya's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Maya is a 7 year old labrador-retriever mix, a sweet and playful soul, and in need of hip surgey and rehabilitation. We rescued her from the shelter when she was 3 months old. She had big paws, which in time she'd grow into, and they led us on many walks in the park, hikes up the mountains, runs through the city, and swims at the beach. She loved exploring new places and new sights, sounds, and smells. About 6 years later we noticed a limp one day. We took her to the vet and they said it was hip dysplasia. We couldn't afford the cost of surgery and after doing some research we decided to keep her on a vitamin regimen and less strenuous activity. She's got a fighting spirit and in time we were at the park smelling roses once again. I knew we wouldn't see the mountains like we used to but she was playing in the grass and her tail kept wagging. Then her condition worsened, and just the other night she had an accident. She fell and hurt herself pretty bad. I've had to carry this 60 pound angel down from the 2nd floor of our apartment to use the bathroom. The vets are advising surgery immediately and rehabilitation. My heart is breaking every single day. The 3-4 month rehabilitation process would be near impossible being that we live on a 2nd floor. There are dog boarding facilities that work with pets post-surgery. Her boarding necessities for that time are roughly $9000 and the surgery cost about $4000. If there is anyone in Los Angeles that has a home and heart big enough for her and is willing to give her a second chance to smell the roses then we would need only facilitate her surgery cost. As I write this, she's by my side, closing her eyes as I rub her belly and wagging her tail at the playful sound of my voice. She's got heart enough for all us. If you met her you would swear she recognized you from before. And there she would be, happy to see you again. Any donation is another day of hope. As mentioned before, if someone out there is able to provide a new home for her that can ensure her recovery then only the surgery cost is needed to be covered. Please contact me if you can and are caring enough to do so. Thank you for taking the time, it means the world to us.
