Mayan Village hit hard by Covid-19
Donation protected
I won’t bore you with the details from my study abroad experience, which is how I came to be a volunteer in the village of Tahdziu. However, it’s important that everyone learns they cannot study/walk into Indigenous communities and take their knowledge while giving nothing back. Your support of the people that are likely helping YOU goes beyond the 3 bracelets you bought for a dollar; it means educating yourself on how you can continue to help them as the knowledge you take will likely follow you forever. As such, I have formed this fundraiser in association with Paalil K’iin, a young Mayan rapper from Tahdziu, Yucatán, Mexico, who used money from his savings to provide PPE and food to his village, which has been experiencing harsh economic instability as well as a borderline famine due to COVID-19. I pledge to match 100 dollars for the first 100 dollars we raise. Please consider donating especially if you’re Latino, have studied abroad, or have benefited from Indigenous peoples in any way (don’t forget the US was built on stolen land). http://www.hazruido.mx/cultura/de-sus-ahorros-rapero-maya-reparte-despensas-en-thadziu/?fbclid=IwAR0-52vr8ftXg7a_JFsLOnGscgv6bhO_ARq5wOH9CvbKERk1NlXrUbxB0nU
