Maximus Newman Education Fund

July 8, 2017, our family was out to dinner celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of Mark and Cheryl Newman, Matt Newman's beloved parents. During the celebration, Matt began experiencing stroke-like symptoms that landed us in the emergency room and began our family's roller coaster battle against brain cancer. After an aggressive brain surgery and months of rehab, Matt returned to work, faithfully and courageously continuing to care for us. June 26, 2018, our 14th wedding anniversary, found him once again in need of emergency medical services. The tumor had grown and caused life-threatening swelling on the brain. There were no acceptable options for treating it, and we were released to care for Matt at home on hospice. On August 2, 2018, he suffered a complication with pneumonia and we spent another week in the ICU with a ventilator sustaining his life. Home once again, he was able to open his eyes and tell us he loved us before his condition declined to the point he was rarely waking up. While it appeared he was improving little by little, the early morning hours of August 24 presented a battle that was too much for his body. He left us that morning for the gates of heaven. We know so many of you care deeply for him and for our family, and so we've set up this account for those who would like to give toward the future education of our son, Maximus. Thank you for all of your love and support through all of this. Through every step of the process, we were more overwhelmed by the generosity and goodwill shown to us than we even were by the impossible circumstances we found ourselves in. We continue to thank you for all you've done and are doing.
