The Maverick Class of Spring 2016 set out to achieve an athletic feat like no other class before and ran the distance from Dallas to Austin. From their run and their desire to spread awareness on childhood cancer, they were able to raise over $12,000 dollars for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit which supports research on cures for childhood cancers.
During this pandemic, The Maverick Class of Spring 2020, along with the Texas Wranglers, want to achieve something similar to what the past class has accomplished. During the first weekend of October, with the help of friends and family through per mile donation support, 15 of the Mavericks and 15 of the Wranglers will each run 20 miles across a 3-day time period, totaling to 600 miles, nearly three times the distance from Dallas to Austin. During this time, we will video ourselves throughout the event and also take time to discuss areas of concern surrounding COVID-19. We will explain and highlight the dangers many people face during this pandemic and how we can support them through these donations.
These donations will be given to the International Rescue Committee who will use them to help the immigrant and refugee community within the United States that have been severely impacted by this pandemic. They will help cover rent cost, food, feminine hygiene products, toiletries, and other basic necessities.
Donations per mile:
$0.50 x 20 miles = $10 donation
$1.00 x 20 miles = $20 donation
$2.50 x 20 miles = $50 donation
$5.00 x 20 miles = $100 donation
or any amount you'd like!
