Maurice's Marathons for Imjin70

My name is Maurice Brisland, I am 18 years old and I’m from Berkeley. I currently study politics and international relations at the University of Birmingham.
This year is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the Imjin River and as a descendant of a veteran of the battle and an ex-Gloucestershire ACF cadet I wanted to do something to commemorate the occasion. Of course, with the COVID-19 pandemic, travel to Korea is out of the question and I wanted to do something that I would find personally challenging. So, I am aiming to run 22, 23, 24 and 25 miles on the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th of April to signify each day of the battle and then run a full marathon on the 26th to acknowledge the time spent in captivity. Initially, I just wanted a challenge to do by myself but after some talking with some of my old cadet instructors, they suggested organising it into a sponsored event.
My chosen charities are: The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum, where I spent a good portion of my childhood and a vital institution for keeping alive the memory of those who have served; Care for Casualties, which supports wounded servicemen and servicewomen from the Rifles; and Gloucestershire ACF, from which I have personally benefitted massively and I hope other kids will continue to do so.
Through my selection of these three charities, I hope to contribute to the commemoration of the past, alleviate present suffering and provide for future opportunities for people from across our community.
My great uncle Sid volunteered to stay behind with the wounded, giving those who were able time to break out back to friendly lines. His courage, selflessness and resilience has inspired me to do something to remember this occasion by and hopefully help others.
