Maureen. Mom.

Maureen Kathleen Mary Bridgette O’Brien. My mom, passed away on Wednesday, June 4th from COVID. She was in one of the affected nursing homes. I hadn’t seen her for close to 3 months because of the lockdown and I was unable to be with her as she died. Gratefully I got to FaceTime with her the afternoon before she died. She was weak, she could only nod. But this is my comfort. I got to tell her over and over again how much I loved her. I got to show her my face and my smile and tell her that she was the best mother this boy...now a man, could have had.

I’ve troubled over whether to post this or not. Asking for this type of help rubs me in all the wrong ways. It’s not my instinct and it’s not my way. My mom had a massive stroke 7 1/2 years ago. That event and my taking over the responsibility of her subsequent care and medical bills, has placed me in debt of about $30,000. Part of which is an almost $9,000 Medi-Care share of cost owed directly to the facility where she has lived.

If you’re so moved and if it makes sense, it would be greatly appreciated. $30,000 seems like an obscene amount to ask. So, I’m just looking to relieve the most pressing and immediate costs...that owed the facility and some help with funeral expenses. Even that sounds like such an incredibly personal thing to ask of friends. Forgive me for that.

And the truth is this, even if nobody donates, it’ll still be ok. I know that. I trust that we are all on a path and all will be well, no matter what. And PLEASE don’t anyone donate if you’re of limited means yourself and/or if this would put you in any hardship whatsoever! I wouldn’t want that and neither would my mom. Please! I mean that.
