Maura Larkin 15th Anniversary Run

Hi everyone, this year marks the 15th anniversary of our beloved mam Maura Larkin’s passing. She was the most caring and inspiring member of our family and someone who we relied on heavily. Unfortunately she was taken from us very early on in our lives and passed away within a month of her diagnosis. This time of the year is a struggle for us but I am sure we are not the only ones in this situation who struggle to enjoy such and exciting family time of the year.

 

15 years ago on the 12th of December 2006 our beautiful mother was diagnosed with cancer. Not once did we consider or think that we would have such little time to spend with her before her sad passing. The fighting spirit she showed always made us believe that we had nothing to be afraid of or worry about. A short 4 weeks later, on the 14th of January 2007 she sadly passed away leaving us distraught and with a massive void in our life.

 

This year to mark her 15th anniversary, myself Dale Larkin and my now 20 year old sister Lucie Larkin will be taking on a fundraiser in her memory. We will be running a 5km every 3 hours for 48 hours starting on the 14th of January. This will be a 5km for every year we have missed having her here with us. The runs will take place in navan, nobber and bective while wearing a top of a club or team she supported. Although this will be a physical and mental test for us on the day and weekend of her passing, it will be one that we will complete together.

 

This fundraiser is to raise awareness that although Christmas is a wonderful occasion for families, it can also be a difficult time for others, who like us have lost someone close or are losing someone they care to an illness.

 

We will be carrying out the fundraiser for two incredible organisations that both of which supported us through a very difficult period in our lives and continue to help those losing someone or dealing with difficult life events.

 

The Friends of St. Luke's Hospital in Dublin done everything possible to make sure our mam had the best care and treatment right up to the day she passed away while also caring for our distraught family. There care will never be forgotten as they continue to help families going through similar circumstances.

 

Sosad have been and continue to help us deal with the grief we have encountered. Although we will never be able to replace the loss, we have been able to live with it, talk about it and reminisce with our family and friends thanks to the help of Sosad.

 

All donations received will be split between these two incredible organisations in the hope that both will benefit and continue to help as many people as possible. 

St. Lukes Hospital will invest the money raised in additional family care areas, beds for patients and support care for families in the same position as us.

Sosad will be able to use the funds to help open an additional support center in Meath to allow more people avail of the services.

Money raised will be withdrawn into a personal bank account in the organizers name (Dale Larkin) and will be split evenly and distributed via bank transfer to both organisations. Any other donations received will also be added to the personal account and will be added to the overall total money raised. 

 

All support and presence along the runs would be greatly appreciated. As you can imagine it will be a tough weekend for us both so any participation  from our friends and family would give us great strength.
