Matt's Long Way Home

Donation protected
On June 24th my brother Matt was in a terrible accident. He was pinned in the car for nearly an hour while they cut the car open to free him. He had to be flown via helicopter to the trauma 1 hospital in Roanoke, Va. On the way to the hospital he required two units of blood due to a tremendous amount of blood loss from his left leg which was shattered immediately above and below the knee. They worked on him for hours to control bleeding. Due to the extensive damage to the major dorsal blood vessel being unsalvageable they had to amputate his left leg above the knee. He has several other lacerations and bruising all over his body. He will have surgery this afternoon to finish removing glass from his leg and to assess the options to repair his hip. He may have more surgeries ahead of him. He remains on a ventilator and with a feeding tube. He is heavily sedated but is still responsive. We are so glad that he is alive. My brother is one of the strongest, most positive, and loving people I know. He has a long road to recovery. He will spend several weeks in the hospital and many more in rehab. The medical bills associated with this type of injury are innumerable. He will need rehabilitation, alterations to his home, a wheelchair, and eventually a prosthetic. A donation of any amount would be so very appreciated and will help to ease the burden for him.
