Matthew’s Mission

As some of you may know, Matthew was diagnosed with congestive heart failure back in the beginning of June. We originally went into St. Joes thinking his health had something to do with his lungs. When the doctors came in and explained to us his heart was very weak, we were devastated. A healthy heart on the left side pumps at a normal 50%-60% but Matthews left side of his heart was only pumping at 10%-15%. His skin color was turning grey, he couldn’t walk ten steps without being completely out of breathe, and sleeping became a hassle. His life and health in general became a challenge. We also found out he had massive amounts of extra fluid in his body and that’s what was making his breathing even worse than the heart was making it. When being discharged from St. Joes we had doctors appointments upon doctors appointments. After coming and going from the emergency room because of his breathing, we FINALLY got sent to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Finally a hospital that knew what they were dealing with. In the hospital their main concern was getting all the extra fluid off of him so we just sat and waited for a long while until he was down to his normal weight with no extra fluid. The doctors had discussed options and we had gone with the best one. The LVAD. Left ventricle assistive device, another words a pump for his heart until he can get a heart transplant. There’s so much more to his story than I can even type but we have a long journey ahead of us. With all the doctors appointments in Rochester and living in Syracuse, the surgery and future surgeries, travel expenses, housing expenses and all the bills to come. There’s no way we can do it by ourselves. So far we’ve been doing good but we have nothing to fall back on and eventually we won’t have money to pay bills coming in. So I ask you to please help out and donate if possible. There will be a future benefit with a T-shirt sales, possible band, and food. Things are still in the works for that. So please help Matthew’s Mission in fighting heart failure!!!
