Matthew's Life & Transport Fund

Matthew is a beautiful 10 year-old boy who has been diagnosed with NBIA (neuro degeneration with brain abnormal iron accumulation) - a rare progressive neurological disorder that is rapidly taking away Matthew's ability to walk, talk, eat and think. The disease has no known cure, and no known treatment.  He is the 22nd child in the United States to be diagnosed with this terrible disease. All of Matthew's doctors are out of state, meaning great travel costs and medical bills including $200 a month in diapers, medicine and adaptive equipment.

We're raising funds so that Matthew's wheelchair can be lifted in and out of his house with a stairway lift. In addition, Matthew will need a wheelchair van to allow him to go places.  Matthew's house also needs to adapted so that his wheelchair can be moved into the bathroom,  into a bathtub, and to allow him to play with his brother in his room. We have thought about moving to another home with wheelchair accessibility but the stress of moving from Matthew's childhood home would be too much for him and for his family. Just four months ago, Matthew was walking on his own. Today he must use a special walker with assistance and must use a wheelchair at school and for any trips outside. His decline has been very rapid.
