Hello Everyone,
My name is Matthew Greco and I am a senior at Lexington Christian Academy (MA). I was accepted to my dream school, Northeastern University, last week as an entrepreneurship & innovation major in the D'Amore-McKim School of Business. However, it is financially out of reach at the moment (more on that later). If I attend, I plan to add on a second major in design, environmental science (with a focus in sustainable energy), or computer science . Northeastern excites me because of their diverse atmosphere, co-ops, and how they integrate hands-on experience and research with their curriculum.
In order to attend Northeastern, I will need some financial assistance. Despite family and personal contributions, financial aid, student loans, work study, and outside scholarships, the cost for my first three semesters is still above what my family can afford to pay. My parents work multiple jobs, and my dad teaches at my school. I am hoping to raise around $9,500 dollars. In order to pay the deposit and enroll at Northeastern, I need to raise a substantial portion of that within the next two weeks as an indicator that I will have sufficient funds. All donations that exceed the goal will be used towards tuition in future years.
I would take my first co-op in the fourth semester. A co-op is a six month period where students stop taking classes and paying tuition; instead, they work a full time, paid internship in a career related to their major. I plan to do three co-ops over my time at Northeastern to raise money for my tuition, apply what I learn in the classroom, and gain experience in entrepreneurship and innovation. I also plan to take summer courses at Northeastern which I could add to my AP credits from high school to graduate a year early. I would like to join the Husky Environmental action team, entrepreneurship club, outing club, and play club/intramural soccer and volleyball. I am very interested to find a collaborative group of students and faculty who I could work alongside of in launching a startup. After Northeastern, I want to explore and launch ventures on innovations in renewable energy and sustainable technology.
I have been heavily engaged both inside and outside of the classroom. I am a high honor roll student with a 4.6 GPA. This year my course load includes: AP statistics, AP European history, AP English Literature, AP studio art, honors environmental science, and architecture II. I was a varsity soccer captain and led our team to the NEPSAC Class D Finals. I am a student keyholder which entails working with the development and admissions offices. I am a board member of the humanitarian club. I founded the chess and debate clubs. I am a member of the National Honors Society. I am a passionate environmental and social justice activist. I love to experiment with photography, film, and architectural design. I created a non-profit company that provides athletes with services which are used to connect the players with prep or college coaches. I love to hike, explore the outdoors, and watch European football in my free time. My second and third choices are University of Vermont and Cal Poly SLO.
