Matt Welsh recover from traumatic injury

Hi, my name is Lucas Fulgham and I am here to help pool some money together to help out Matt Welsh, our dear friend and husband to Dev.

From Matt’s wife, Dev:

“On Saturday August 27 Matt Welsh crashed his BMX bike on a berm at our friends place in Courtenay. He was unconscious for a few minutes, I was right there, and was bleeding a lot from his face. Initially we were at the hospital where I work and then transferred down to Victoria for specialist care…

The good news - his brain and spinal cord are totally fine, as are his arms and legs. He is awake and knows everything that’s going on. His eyesight and his hearing are also fine.

The bad news - he broke “every bone in his face” as the plastic surgeon said and needs a major facial reconstruction surgery. He also has a fracture at the base of his neck and two in his upper back. He’s having a lot of pain and minimal use of his hands right now (hopefully will improve as swelling goes down).

The plan is to wait for the swelling in his face to go down and operate on Friday or Saturday. My parents have taken our dogs over to the Sunshine Coast for a couple of weeks and his mum is on her way over from Australia later in the week.”

Currently the costs, timeline and state of recovery are unclear, but bills don’t stop. Matt owns and operates a small sign making business making EI somewhat inaccessible. We all want Dev to be able to visit Matt in hospital for now, and give Matt the best recovery he can get to bring semblance of normality back once the wounds heal and it’s time.
