Matt Guagliardo's Recovery

Anyone who knows Matt knows that he is one of the last people on earth who deserved to be dealt the hand of being diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Despite this misfortune, Matt remains the same positive, happy guy we all know, love, and appreciate. Not only has  Matt been involved with the Chemung County SPCA for a long time. He also is active in many other areas of the community such as the Elmira Rotary Club, Community Arts of Elmira, and Toastmasters International. Matt is always lending a hand whenever he can and it's time for us to return the favor.

As a result of his ongoing struggle with some tick-borne diseases, he has some nerve damage that significantly impacts the use of his legs. Recently, Matt was using his walker to go from his car into the house and fell in his garage, breaking two of the vertebrae in his spine. This caused more issues and now he has to relearn to walk.

He has been in rehab for nearly a month at St Joseph's where he's been working with physical and occupational therapists to retrain his body. He has been making steady progress each day but will need to continue therapy in-home when discharged until he can be fully independent again.

As you can imagine, Matt's medical bills are stacking up, and we're looking to his friends and family to help out the way he has helped out so many through his various civic activities. Any donation is greatly appreciated and we're wishing Matt a very speedy recovery!
