Matt Fydler's Fight Against Sarcoma

Many people in our community will be aware that for the last six months Matt Fydler has been bravely battling cancer. It is an extremely rare form of sarcoma known as rhabdomyosarcoma that was initially discovered in his bicep.

This fight has seen Fyd’s go through radiation therapy, surgery to remove his bicep and a gruelling regime of chemotherapy. Sadly, in the last two weeks, he and his family received the devastating news that these measures were unsuccessful in stemming the spread of tumours which are now in his lungs, armpit and arm.

Fyd’s treatment has now shifted onto a different form of chemotherapy while he awaits the results of genomic testing and the possibility of being accepted into clinical trials with immunotherapy. All of this represents a significant financial burden on Matt and his family.

Not only is Fyds a loyal friend to many, but his impact on the community over the past 20 years has been significant. Through his dedication to his students in the capacity of teacher, coach, mentor and counsellor he has built lasting relationships and is a positive role model. Most important is his role as a loving dad to Millie and Kai and husband to Amy.
