Mason Knight

Hi, my name is Laura Fangman. My son, Mason is 4 years old. When he was 2, Mason was diagnosed with Dicer1 syndrome, a genetic disorder that can cause several different types of tumors to develop in the body. These growths may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). At 2 years old, Mason had a kidney removed due to a cystic nephroma.

This October (2022), Mason began crying, saying he couldn’t breathe. We rushed him to the hospital, where the doctors discovered that he had developed PPB, a childhood lung cancer. At the first of November, Mason underwent surgery; surgeons removed a six inch mass from his lungs. A six inch mass from a little boy is pretty horrific, but we are so thankful that doctors were able to successfully remove it.

The next step in Mason’s fight is chemo. Mason started his chemo on November 16th. He will be undergoing treatment for the next year, which means that he is in and out of the hospital frequently. Unfortunately, he is experiencing some pretty yucky side effects from the chemo, which the doctors say is to be expected, but Mason is a trooper. He is an amazing little dude.

Since Mason’s hospitalization, I have been unable to return to my job as a full-time PE coach . My main goal is to be here for him. If you could, please contribute to our fundraiser.
