Mason Knaub Strong

Hi!  My name is Collee Ann Wentz, and I am a friend of the Knaub and De Jesus families.  As many of you know, Brandon, Rebecca, Keagan, and their youngest  son, Mason (age 6), were given heart wrenching and devastating news today about Mason's health.  I am starting this fundraising page as a way to offer help to this beautiful family.  Mason is presently not covered by insurance, so my hope is that we can collectively relieve some of the financial stress for this dear family.

This is the information provided by Brandon Knaub, Mason's father, on behalf of the family.

It is with a very heavy heart that I give an update to the last few days, and those to come, for my family. Mason had an ear infection and then strep a few weeks ago and took antibiotics. During the antibiotics and after they were done he was still waking up a few times a night and during the day was just not himself. He would get slight fevers and was not eating well. Overall just not the Mason we all know. . .Which led to Rebecca taking him to the Duke urgent care in Hillsborough. They recommended that we go to Duke University Hospital. Rebecca brought him to the E.R. at Duke shortly after 9a.m. Sunday while I was getting a little sleep from night shift. I joined them soon after. I got caught up when I arrived and multiple test were done throughout the day. . .and the next...and on until yesterday. After all the needle pokes and urine tests and a bone marrow test were completed we received a heart crumbling diagnosis this afternoon. Our beautiful son has High Risk Neuroblastoma. It is a very rare diagnosis that less than 1000 kids in the US get every year. It is very hard to beat and odds are not what any parent ever would want to hear. My big boy and my family have a long road ahead. The last few days have already been a nightmare and the worst is yet to come.
The kind words, thoughts, and prayers up to this point have been more than we can ask for. We appreciate you all. Going forward we ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. If you know Mason you know the beautiful spirit this kid has. He is a beautiful soul and has the best sense of humor. Even with the things hes going through he is cracking jokes and picking on me. This kid has a huge part of my heart and I feel like someone is trying to tear that away. However our heads are up and WE WILL FIGHT THIS AND WIN.
I know there are people looking out for us and people who are going to want to do things for us and I only ask that you give us some time as we are still in shock and trying to process everything. We also have another strong intelligent child at home that is being incredibly strong for us. Its crushing him to see his brother in this and he cant be there. Also keep him on your mind as I know our attention will be unfairly divided until we beat this. I love you Keegan and dont ever think we doing this because you are not as important or special.
At some point we will need help im sure. We love all of you and will update when we can. Again, please keep us in your thoughts as we try to get this amazing child back on top of the world!
P.S. To my blue family, you guys have have blown me away with everything up to this point. I have questioned my choice to change careers lately because of the financial side of what we do. But, no money in the world can fill in for the fact that you all shown me that we have each others back through everything..work or life. Yall are amazing and im proud to serve and protect by your side.
