One of the communities that has been most impacted by Covid-19 is the one we are a part of – artists and musicians. With tours, live shows and festivals cancelled, collaborative studio and writing sessions on hold, and creative productions delayed, musicians and artists who were already struggling to make ends meet and access important resources are in need of even more assistance. This is why we launched “MASKS FOR MUSIC”
“Masks for Music” aims to raise money for the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief Project in support of Unison Benevolent Fund, a non-profit, registered charity that provides counselling and emergency relief services to the Canadian music community. They help professional music makers in times of hardship, illness or economic difficulties, and their work is incredibly important, with or without a Pandemic.
With an ambitious fundraising goal of $10,000 in three weeks, we have created just about 200 M? custom cotton masks with slips for filters – each for sale via a minimum donation of $10. Additionally, we have partnered with 18 local GTA companies to reward our donations above $100 with a number of goods and services from personal training to clothing to jewelry to fresh handmade pasta.
In addition to the support of individuals and small businesses in our community, Spotify Canada has pledged to match any donations made to Unison dollar for dollar up to a collective $10 Million, so any money we raise together will be DOUBLED! In times of darkness and despair, we have seen the light that shines through when people and communities come together, and we want to be a part of that story.
To receive your mask and gift, please email your address and contact number to [email redacted] with your donation confirmation to make arrangements for delivery. We offer contactless delivery or pickup within the GTA or can accommodate shipping, however, shipping is subject to post office delays due to Covid-19. All masks and gifts will be available for delivery, pick up or mailing after May 21st while supplies last.

Schoony is a commercial and artistic British sculptor. He has had an extensive career in the cinematic special-effects field, which he entered at age 15 and has consisted of working on more than 100 movies over the course of 25 years. As a prosthetics and makeup artist, his film credits include Harry Potter, Gladiator, and Where the Wild Things Are. Schoony rose to art world fame in 2008, thanks to an extensive street art installation composed of his hyper-realistic plastic casts. His fine art sculpture is most often figural, as evidenced by his best-known leitmotif of a shirtless boy soldier wearing an oversized military helmet. Schoony constructs his pieces through extensive life-casting techniques composed in a variety of different materials, including plastic, bronze, and gold. His imagery incorporates themes of commercialism, violence, and kitsch into its content, exploring contemporary Western society’s detached relationship to warfare. Born 1974 in Hertfordshire, England, he continues to live and work in the United Kingdom.

Born in London to Norwegian parents, Magnus Gjoen grew up in Switzerland, Denmark, Italy as well as in the UK. As a contemporary artist Gjoen has exhibited worldwide and questions the notions of beauty by juxtaposing a range of styles and media, incorporating a street and pop aesthetic with a fine art approach. His pieces draw on history and allusion, using existing artworks or fragments from the past to create his own, contemporary aesthetic.
Describing himself as an ‘accidental’ artist, Gjoen studied fine art and fashion design which led to a successful career in fashion, working for brands such as Vivienne Westwood.
A move back into the art world came from decorating the walls of his London flat and realising he could do so with his own artworks. Thought-provoking and often-emotional, Gjoen’s art offers a modern spin on old masterpieces or manipulates powerful and strong objects into something fragile yet beautiful. By blending two genres from completely different worlds, his art is about rediscovery, taking things from the past and renewing them for the contemporary market.
Breathing fresh air into dusty old paintings found in the far corners of a museum or lending a sense of beauty and grace to typically powerful, even dangerous objects, Magnus Gjoen’s work invites a second look. It’s this ability to engage with the viewer and get them questioning, challenging and thinking that makes him a promising and successful young artist in the contemporary art world.

JOLENE MELISSA OFFICINALIS APOTHECARY AND HAND DYED GOODS
Jolene studied couture in 2003 at Helen Lefeaux in Vancouver British Columbia to go onto working with John Fluevog, Richard Kidd, in many films and television shows, to later become an independent pattern maker and sample sewer lending her couture collection for many fashion editorial magazines that were located in Vancouver with international audiences.

Madison Makepeace is an Honours graduate of The Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Toronto. She is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and that paired with her Ayurvedic Training and knowledge of anatomy through her studies as a Yoga Teacher (YTT 200 at 889 Yoga) create a perfect marriage in supporting people through food and lifestyle.

Schoony is a commercial and artistic British sculptor. He has had an extensive career in the cinematic special-effects field, which he entered at age 15 and has consisted of working on more than 100 movies over the course of 25 years. As a prosthetics and makeup artist, his film credits include Harry Potter, Gladiator, and Where the Wild Things Are. Schoony rose to art world fame in 2008, thanks to an extensive street art installation composed of his hyper-realistic plastic casts. His fine art sculpture is most often figural, as evidenced by his best-known leitmotif of a shirtless boy soldier wearing an oversized military helmet. Schoony constructs his pieces through extensive life-casting techniques composed in a variety of different materials, including plastic, bronze, and gold. His imagery incorporates themes of commercialism, violence, and kitsch into its content, exploring contemporary Western society’s detached relationship to warfare. Born 1974 in Hertfordshire, England, he continues to live and work in the United Kingdom.

Born in London to Norwegian parents, Magnus Gjoen grew up in Switzerland, Denmark, Italy as well as in the UK. As a contemporary artist Gjoen has exhibited worldwide and questions the notions of beauty by juxtaposing a range of styles and media, incorporating a street and pop aesthetic with a fine art approach. His pieces draw on history and allusion, using existing artworks or fragments from the past to create his own, contemporary aesthetic.
Describing himself as an ‘accidental’ artist, Gjoen studied fine art and fashion design which led to a successful career in fashion, working for brands such as Vivienne Westwood.
A move back into the art world came from decorating the walls of his London flat and realising he could do so with his own artworks. Thought-provoking and often-emotional, Gjoen’s art offers a modern spin on old masterpieces or manipulates powerful and strong objects into something fragile yet beautiful. By blending two genres from completely different worlds, his art is about rediscovery, taking things from the past and renewing them for the contemporary market.
Breathing fresh air into dusty old paintings found in the far corners of a museum or lending a sense of beauty and grace to typically powerful, even dangerous objects, Magnus Gjoen’s work invites a second look. It’s this ability to engage with the viewer and get them questioning, challenging and thinking that makes him a promising and successful young artist in the contemporary art world.

JOLENE MELISSA OFFICINALIS APOTHECARY AND HAND DYED GOODS
Jolene studied couture in 2003 at Helen Lefeaux in Vancouver British Columbia to go onto working with John Fluevog, Richard Kidd, in many films and television shows, to later become an independent pattern maker and sample sewer lending her couture collection for many fashion editorial magazines that were located in Vancouver with international audiences.
For the last several years, Jolene has been studying surface treatment with botanical matter on various surfaces ranging from watercolour paper to fabrics. Madison Makepeace is an Honours graduate of The Institute of Holistic Nutrition in Toronto. She is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and that paired with her Ayurvedic Training and knowledge of anatomy through her studies as a Yoga Teacher (YTT 200 at 889 Yoga) create a perfect marriage in supporting people through food and lifestyle.
She runs a private nutrition practice as a clinical nutritionist and can also be found on film and television sets as a nutritionist to cast and crew members.
Madison grew up in a household where alternative healing and food as a form of medicine was the norm.
