Mary Seastrum's Cancer Fight

Donation protected
Mary is a loving wife, mom, sister, grandma and friend.  Her life has been a selfless reflection of her love for life and others.  She raised all 3 of her children in a loving home and taught them how to live life under God’s grace.  Mary has been a lifelong nurse caring for others in many capacities.  Up to her recent battles with cancer she was a full-time nurse working at a nursing home down the road.  She loved her patients as family and still stops in to visit and encourage them. While retired, they continued to give of themselves and provide the best life to 2 of their teenage granddaughters which they are raising.

In 2016 Mary noticed a small lump on her neck.  Later it was diagnosed as a very rare, aggressive cancer: acinic cell carcinoma with high grade transformation.  This cancer is unseen to most of the cancer hospitals and clinics.  It is very rare and most doctors haven’t seen it in 20 years.

After 2 years of multiple cross-country appointments in 3 hospitals, a 14-hour surgery which severed her facial nerves, 6 weeks of radiation and currently undergoing treatment of Keytruda.  A most recent CAT scans in December 2017 has shown multiple aggressive growing tumors in her lungs.  Mary was been through many life trials but always has kept her spark for life.  We want to continue this spark which so many of us enjoy each and everyday.

Doctors have told her that the Keytruda has a chance of working but needs 2-3 months to start working.  Doctors do not know if she has this amount of time.  So, on January 15, 2018 we are heading to Burzynski Clinic in Houston for 3 weeks of treatments.  They believe there is a good chance of shrinking her tumors allowing Keytruda to continue working.  After the 3 weeks we will head back home and the treatments will be administered to her at home.  THIS TREATMENT WILL NOT BE COVERED BY INSURANCE.

Mary would never ask for assistance herself.  As her daughter and best friend, I am asking on her behalf.  We would love to see a miracle in her fight against cancer.  We are asking and thankful for any prayers and support we may receive.  We have met so many kind and generous people along this journey.  All proceeds of this campaign will go directly to Mary’s treatments.
