As most of the residents and communities of the Ottawa-Gatineau region may be aware of, the Gatineau river levels are the highest they have been in over a century. Many have been affected greatly by this flooding, including my mother.
My mom, Mary, is the kindest soul I know–always helping others when in need, and now I’m turning to my community for her support. Two weeks before the flooding began, Mary put her house up for sale with hopes of downsizing to a smaller home. Unfortunately that won't happen any time soon. The province of Quebec considers floods such as these an “Act of God”, and therefore her insurance will not cover any of the incurred damages–and as you can see from the photos, there are plenty.
My father (Mary's ex-husband) has been working around the clock to save the foundation from being completely destroyed since last Wednesday, May 3. They have had to buy and rent pumps and generators to slow the water levels. They have been using my mom’s canoe as their method of transport as no cars have been able to access the street. As I write this, the basement has become completely submerged and they are trying to stop the water from affecting the main floor of her bungalow.

As of now, Mary’s furnace, hot water tank, heater, freezer, washer & dryer, and electrical for the home are damaged beyond repair and will need to be replaced. The foundation is likely done for and will also need to be repaired. This list doesn’t even include all of the personal belongings that have been lost and destroyed.
As our financial situation is precarious we have no other options than to turn to the community and ask for help. The money raised will go towards repairs/replacement for these items.

My mom is a caregiver for people with developmental disorders and those of you who know her, can attest to her selfless and caring nature. She needs our help.
