Maryland Trout Fishing Guide E-Book

Donation protected
My name is Andrew Sarcinello, and I am an addict - small stream wild trout fly fishing has taken over my spare time.  Since 2010, I have been obsessed with exploring the Mid-Atlantic states in search of little-known wild trout waters.  To date, I have caught at least one wild trout in over 50 different Maryland streams, while the few most popular waters are becoming more and more crowded.

I have decided to share some of the knowledge I have gained in the past few years - not to brag, but to inspire my fellow Maryland fly anglers to explore the lesser-known trout streams that are tucked away throughout the state.  Some of these waters are stunningly beautiful and nearly as good as their famous cousins.  I want to share this knowledge in a way that is modern and visually appealing, but I need some minor financial assistance to get things up and running.  I also hope to be able to give back to conservation groups that deserve our thanks for ensuring that many of these streams are still high-quality trout fisheries.

Please help me pay for software licensing fees, which will allow me to produce a unique E-book about wild trout streams in Maryland.  The e-book will feature high-resolution regional maps and informative descriptions of public-land wild trout opportunities at a greater level than has previously been written about in Maryland.  Also included will be a thorough, extremely informative overview of wild trout habitat requirements, how to identify streams that may support them, and how to fish these unique places.  If you all raise more than the goal, additional donations will go toward local conservation groups.

What do I need the money for?

I will need to purchase a one-year subscription to ESRI ArcGIS services, which costs about $800.  This software will allow me to produce high-resolution maps, figures, and manage data in a way that is essential to creating a digital guide book unlike any other.

I am not seeking full funding of the software license - just some assistance that will allow me to get things up and running and complete a passion project that will benefit you as a fly fisherman in Maryland.

Where will the money go?

1.  The first $500 goes entirely to me, but you will benefit and here's how:
- For a minimum $25 donation, I will provide you a full copy of the finished e-book in password-protected PDF format.  This is the only way to obtain this e-book (it will not be uploaded in a public space at any time).  I have decided to limit this to a maximum of 40 copies, since I will have to reach out to each donor individually to distribute the final PDF.

2. If the $500 goal is reached, all funds beyond $500 will be entirely donated to local conservation groups that are responsible for the stewardship of natural habitats located in areas covered by the book.  I am currently researching which groups may be best suited for any donations - possibilities include TU, Gunpowder River Keeper, and soil/land conservation groups.  The above pricing will still apply.

What is included in the E-Book?

The data used in the maps has been compiled from various public sources of information, and supplemented with personal experience.  NOT INCLUDED are streams on private land, or streams with fragile trout populations (with exception of a few brown trout streams that serve as perfect reminders of why we need to improve protection of MD's wild trout streams).  Even using those criteria to responsibly limit what information is shared, I am left with dozens of trout streams to share with you in the following counties (*approximate* numbers below):

Baltimore - 16 streams
Carroll - 5 streams
Cecil - 3 streams
Frederick - 13 streams
Harford - 6 streams
Howard - 3 streams
Montgomery - 4 streams
Washington - 5 streams

Western Maryland (Allegany and Garrett counties) will not be included because I do not have enough personal experience in these areas to be able to provide reliable information.

Stocked trout waters are also shown on the maps, but are not the main focus.

When will the e-book be completed?

Since this is a passion project that I am doing in my free time, it will take several months to perfect it.  I anticipate a final version will be complete May 2019.

I cannot thank you enough for any donations you may be able to provide, and am hopeful we can surpass the $500 goal and begin donating to conservation groups that could really use it.  I promise, with absolutely certainty, that my e-book will help you find your next favorite fishing spot!

Sincerely,
Andrew
