Support for Mary & Jim McGovern

On July 16th my dad went to the ER with a severe cold that had been lingering all summer.  Upon examination a mass was discovered just above his lungs and we knew that we were dealing with something very different than a cold.  The week following was long and filled with test after test.  On July 19th we learned that the mass above his lungs is an extremely aggressive form of cancer - Neuroendocrine carcinoma.  We also learned that there were spots on his liver, pancreas, and near his stomach.  Treatment began that night and he wasn't released from the hospital until August 2nd to wait for further news from his Doctor.

We are still in the beginning phases of treatment.  Chemo and radiation will begin again on August 15th and we are anxiously awaiting test results to see how the cancer is responding. 

This whole situation has come out of left field and was very unexpected for all of us.  My mom recently started a new job that she loves, however being that she is new in her role, every hour she spends at appointments with my dad are unpaid hours of work for her.  Insurance is covering many expenses and we are rallying together to take care of as much as we can that isn't covered, not to mention the time away from work.  I know these next few months will be filled with unexpected expenses for my parents and I am trying to do whatever I can to support them.
