Mary Lucy Glockner's Breast Cancer Fight Fund

Donation protected
If you know Mary Lucy, you know she would do anything and she would give the world to help any one in need! Mary Lucy has dedicated her life to education and she has made a huge difference in the lives of so many. She has never asked for a single thing in return! It is now time for us to rally and give back to Mary Lucy and her family. The Glockner family is notorious for giving back to the community in countless ways and they are always the first to step up and help anyone who is in need!

On September 2, 2020, Mary Lucy was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer after finding a lump in her breast. By September 25th, Mary Lucy adjusted her mindset and began her fight to beat this disease as she began 16 rounds of chemotherapy. Mary Lucy already knows that following her chemo treatments, she will face surgery, radiation, and hormone blockers. She embraced this with the poise and grace of the Rockstar that she is only to learn a few short weeks later that a CT scan showed an area of concern on a lumbar disk. Mary Lucy had a bone biopsy that showed the presence of cancer. This made her cancer Stage IV metastatic breast cancer with a life expectancy of 5-10 years.

This news came as a tremendous heart wrenching shock to Mary Lucy, her family, friends, colleagues and to everyone else who knows and loves her. In the midst of a pandemic, although Mary Lucy was surrounded with love, she has had to endure doctor’s appointments and treatments alone. As difficult as it has been for Mary Lucy to navigate this disease on her own, it has been incredibly difficult for Rod, her husband of 22 years, her son, Jack (18), a Freshman at Appalachian State University and her son, William (14), a Freshman at Laney High School, as they have watched the glue of their family suffer in pain, fear and uncertainty.

Mary Lucy, an alumni of the University of North Carolina Wilmington, only had days to prepare her substitute teacher to take over her class at Bolivia Elementary where she has taught since 1999. Thankfully, Mary Lucy’s amazing organizational skills and years of knowledge and experience afforded her the ability to effectively and efficiently set her classes up for success all while in the middle of a pandemic and so much unprecedented uncertainty. Mary Lucy was forced to take a leave of absence as she was told by her physicians to prepare for the good fight that was ahead of her.

We would like to raise money for the Glockner family, so that Mary Lucy and her family can focus on her health and healing and not have to worry about every day bills & the cost of her medications, treatments, etc. We humbly ask for your help to support our hero, our friend and our beloved Mary Lucy. We understand that this year has been financially difficult for so many! There is no contribution that is too small and we respectfully ask that you keep this family close to your heart and in your prayers!

Thanks!
