Mary Doolittle's Cancer Fight

Throughout her life, Mary Doolitle (Stephens/ McCollum) has spent her days helping and caring for others. She was an aide at Deerton Schools working with young children, an aide at Munising Schools working with the severely handicapped, and as a care aide for the elderly for the Alger County Commission on Aging. Until recently she worked at “Club”, a daily day care for seniors, and in the office of the ACCOA. Mary also helped care for her brother Patrick, and for her parents as they aged and had severe health issues. Along the way she raised and cared for her own family, daughter, and her two grandchildren. But now Mary needs our care and our help! In 2007, Mary was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. In 2008 the doctors declared her cancer free. This past December, just before Christmas, she was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in her hip, pelvis, and other areas. She is headed to the Mayo Clinic for consultation and treatment options. Chemo and radiation will be starting soon. Mary would never ask for any type of help herself, but we her family have decided to establish this Go Fund Me account on her behalf. Her treatment will most likely last for several years and will involve a lot of travel and treatment not covered by insurance. Any help we can give her will also help to alleviate the tremendous anxiety that results from the diagnosis and cost of treatment. Any money raised will go directly to Mary for that purpose.
