On the 22nd March 2018, It was announced Marmaris Cat Shelter WILL close permantley with immediate affect. Kitty Cat Shelter is Marmaris's 3rd and FINAL cat shelter and is run by Jeannie Thirkill.

We would like to thank the Belediye for their support over the years since the land passed into there hands.
With increasing numbers of casulaty cats coming in from road accidents and the law stating that healthy cats should not be KEPT in overcrouded shelters, the Belediye have accepted the only way ahead is to close the shelter and in its place build cat feeding/control stations in and around Marmaris !!
This is something ive dreamed of for years! Cat trapping feeding/control stations. And ofcourse the Belediye will have a recovery section for cats post- operations and a place for disabled cats that cannot live on the streets.
The Belediye has given me the choice of adopting ALL the animals myself..and will help me with the removal of fencing and cat cages.
The Blediye have also given m time to raise the funds to find a new place.

Kitty Cat Shelter is home to some 150 cats & very young kittens, 10 dogs, 3 donkeys and one horse. All animals are cared for daily by Jeannie alone. Over the years Jeannie has fund raised regularly to help cover the costs of the shelter. This also includes food for all the animals, medical expenses and day to day running costs of the shelter. Some of the animals have spent up to 10 years at Kitty Cat Shelter where they have been kept safe, healthy and loved by Jeannie and her close friends. We are devastated that they will be moved to the local council animal shelter where they already hold up to 500 animals. This does not bare to imagine.
What can we do? I have been asking myself this question over and over since i heard of the news. This morning when the official announcement was made i spoke with Jeannie. She has ONE option! Jeannie has found land 30km away, and although it needs work it is do-able. This would mean Jeannie would be a completely private charity with no help from anyone other than her friends. There would be no financial help at all. She would be relying on the public to help her make this possible. This plan will only work if she can find the funds. This will be the biggest fundrasier in 25 years! All donations will be go directly to the new shelter. The donations will help with:
The move/transport of ALL animals from there current location to the NEW location 30kms away. Food for all animals for the first 3 months to allow there new home to get up and running and made into a FOREVER HOME. Removal company to move all furniture and equipment. Horse cages to be dismantled and rebuilt at the new land site. General bits and pieces that the new place will need. The transition of moving all the animals needs to be well organized, comfortable and stress free.
This is going to be a GIANTANTIC operation which will take around 4 weeks to complete from when the current shelter closes. Jeannie has a few lovely friends who have kindly offered to help out with the mov but what she needs is the funds. Sadly if we can't raise these funds for there new home then this will not happen and it will be the end of an era for Kitty Cat Shelter. I am asking all of Jeannie's friends both on social media and in Turkey/UK to help me, to help her and the animals. Lets get these beautiful animals safe and settled into a forever home. We hope to raise £2000 which will cover ALL costs and for the next 3 months. Jeannie has dedicated her life to this shelter and animals. In return she deserves this new place to retire with her animals. She has spent to many sleepless nights worrying about them all. Jeannie never complains about her charity work, infact she has now turned this situation into a positive one. Marmaris and the street animals will really benefit from these new Belediye plans. Having these control stations will increase the health of many street cats! That is music to Jeannies ears as its all shes ever wanted.
Jeannie is an old fashioned bird! She will always accept help but will not ask for it! Long term, ( going private) the animals home will still be an official registered charity however it will be private so we hope to attract long term sponsers for the animals. In return the sponsers will have access to a private Facebook chairty page which will allow them to see there choosen animal. Access to there home to see there sponsered animals in person and weekly updates. This is an early idea which still needs lots of planning, all suggestions welcome. PLEASE PLEASE donate. No amount is to small! It will all add up in the end. We only have 1 month to raise the funds so Jeannie can leave the old shelter will all the animals. This is a legal,registered chairty in Turkey and all donations will go through the charities ledger.
