Mark Lyons was a force of nature. He lit up any room he walked into and had an infectious laugh that would make anyone bowl over, even when they didn't know what they were laughing about. As a loving husband, the eldest of five brothers and father to six children, Mark had an impact on anyone who ever crossed paths with him. Described by many as one of the most genuine, caring human beings, Mark dedicated his life to saving others. In 1996, he became a volunteer EMT and went on to become certified as a paramedic. For more than 20 years, Mark worked tirelessly at several rescue squads in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, delivering five babies and saving countless lives.
In 2015, Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. News such as this would crush anyone's spirit. Not Mark - he stared cancer in the face and refused to let it impact him. He continued to work at the rescue squad for as long as possible and even when he could no longer do so, remained engaged until the end.
After three hard fought years, Mark lost his battle with cancer and passed away on July 22, 2018. In honor of his legacy of helping others, his family is raising money to set up a memorial fund to support local EMS programs and those who wish to follow in his footsteps.
The first step to making this legacy fund a reality depends on all of you who may have known him or known of him and believe in his life's mission. His family established this GoFundMe account as a way to raise an initial goal of $25,000. Your donations will go towards things such as purchasing new equipment for EMS programs in Bucks County technical schools so that students receive the best possible education, and setting up scholarships for those who want to pursue a career in Emergency Medical Services but are unable to afford it financially.
