Mark for SMUD Director Ward 4

I am running for SMUD Director for Ward 4 in the November 6, 2018 election.  I want to bring greater independence and transparency to SMUD.  In particular to bring some honesty and full disclosure to the SMUD policy on electric meters.  SMUD smart meters  are hazardous to your health!  They transmit pulsed, powerful, hazardous radio frequency microwave radiation, also known as electromagnetic fields (EMF) in all directions.  These go out 13,381 times per day on average and up to 240,000 times per day, according to SMUD.  The smart meters have a range of half a mile to a mile.  Smart meters have made customers suffer in every state.  Although SMUD passed a residential smart meter opt out policy in March 2012 (Resolution 12-03-09) and amended it one year later (Resolution 13-03-08) to allow customers to ask for and receive an analog electric meter, the safe kind that SMUD deemed appropriate and used for every residential customer from 1946 when it started selling electricity through about 2010, SMUD has kept the smart meter opt out policy a big secret.  SMUD to this day has never notified its customers about this policy, available meter types, costs, or how to "opt out".  There is one page on their site about the smart meter opt out policy and if you know it is there or you know to look for it you can find it.  Otherwise you would never know.   That page is misleading and attempts to steer customers away from the analog electric meter and toward a non-communicating digital meter, which does not have an antenna but it still creates dirty electricity in the home.  Compare this to the massive publicity SMUD has been doing for its new time of day electric rates starting in October, 2018 where electricity will cost more than twice as much as usual during June through September from 5 - 8 p.m.  Or the massive publicity they do for rate increases every two years.  

I have recommended dozens of times in writing and at Board meetings that SMUD should do this.  The result of this policy of secrecy and deception is that, by my estimate, 99% of SMUD customers do not know that they have a choice when it comes to electric meters.  SMUD is causing unnecessary suffering and health impacts.  Well known health impacts from long term exposure to non-ionizing radiation from smart meters include headaches, insomnia, dizziness, tinnitus and heart palpitations.  Longter term impacts include DNA damage, immune system dysfunction, oxidative stress and structural and functional changes of the reproductive system.  That is what SMUD wants to give all of its 580,000 residential accounts, those health impacts.  That is the extremely high price of secrecy and deception.   https://www.emfscientist.org and http://www.bioinitiative.org

My background is in political science.  I have a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and an MBA from Loyola University of Chicago.  For 21 years I have been a political activist.  I have worked on local air pollution policies, urban sprawl, world peace, and now electromagnetic radiation or electrosmog.  This is a very serious and deadly threat to all of us.  I have belonged to Toastmasters Clubs for years where I learned public speaking and leadership.  I belong to a men's group associated with The Mankind Project, which meets weekly.  I am very grateful to belong to this men's group.  

I have never been married but I have four beautiful nieces and I love them all.  Their ages are 23, 16, 13 and 10.  They are growing up fast!  I wish I had more time with them but I treasure these relationships and the time I do have with them. 

On the SMUD Board I will have an open mind.  I will be willing to ask tough questions and, if the facts call for it, to challenge the conventional wisdom and the party line.  I will be willing to dissent.  Whether I dissent or support the company line I will be thorough in my investigation and analysis of each issue.  I will truly listen to the voices of my constituents in Ward 4.  I believe I am far and away the best qualified candidate to stand up and think critically and think for himself.

I need to raise money for this campaign!  I had a large one time expense to pay for having my candidate statement printed in the Sacramento County voter information guide.  It takes a lot of time to learn what SMUD is doing, compare that to what they should be doing, and let people know.  I have been following SMUD since December, 2013.  The election is coming up soon, less than 3 weeks away.  I need to raise money ASAP to print flyers and to pay for my time to do press releases and so on.
