Help Mark Emery Beat Cancer Again!

This fundraiser is set up for my brother-in-law Mark Emery. Family and friends of Mark describe him as a true family man who is greatly involved in his community. He has been married to his high school sweetheart, Laurie, for 23 years. He is a proud father of Cole (12) Alex (16) and his eldest son Tyler (18) who is currently in his freshman year of college. Mark spent 11 years in education as a PE teacher and athletic trainer at Deer Valley High School in Antioch. He switched careers into law enforcement where he has served as a Sheriff’s Deputy for Contra Costa County for over 10 years. He works numerous overtime shifts to better provide for his family but still finds time to volunteer coach numerous sports. He is a community servant and selfless man to his core.
10 years ago, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, at the of age 34. He underwent chemo and radiation for 7 months. The treatment saved his life, curing him from cancer.
Sadly, this past July, after feeling weak and lethargic, he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It is likely caused by the treatment from his previous Lymphoma. He tested positive for the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph+) which makes his Leukemia have a high rate of reoccurrence after remission. His best chance for a cure is to undergo a bone marrow transplant. This procedure will give him another chance to beat cancer again however, it will prevent him from working for over a year.
How you can help: Due to Mark undergoing the transplant, he will be spending a month at Stanford Hospital and then living in a separate apartment near the hospital for a couple months during his recovery and needing a caregiver. The loss of overtime amounts to almost 40% of his pay already, and it will go down even more on disability. Mark is the primary earner in the family, and Laurie's part time teaching job will not cover the family's increasing expenses.
Anything that can help us reach this target will be so greatly appreciated. Everything raised will go directly towards paying for the family’s essentials, living expenses, and medical costs.
