The friends and family of Marathon’s Mark Belile, 57, are asking for the community’s support during this difficult time. Less than a month ago, Mark was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He is undergoing treatment at a mainland hospital and is fighting courageously. Still, the bills are mounting.

Mark Belile is a decorated law enforcement officer, having served an entire career with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office of the Florida Keys -- with the exception of his time in the U.S. Army from 1984 to 1988 – before he retired earlier this year. He was employed by the Sheriff’s Office from 1989 to 2022 and has 16 letters of commendation during his tenure as a corrections officer. After his retirement, he applied to become a reserve deputy with the Sheriff’s Office.

Mark Belile’s partner, Charlene Sprinkle is a lieutenant in the Islamorada District. Together, they have “Little Mark,” 6 years old, who adores Belile’s grown son, Travis, 22, who is followed in his father’s footsteps to also become a corrections officer in Key West. Belile is also proud to call himself a father figure to Jack, 28, who is also a veteran and now a nurse.

Belile has a long history of community service including his dedication to the Boy Scouts organization where he spent many hours alongside Travis who achieved Eagle rank. Charlene says Belile loves his family, road trips, concerts, dogs, Germany and Oktoberfest. Belile is constantly on the look out for opportunities to combine as many as those passions as possible.

Over the years, Mark Belile and Charlene Sprinkle have had a very positive impact on Marathon and the Florida Keys with their hard working and giving nature. Now, it’s our time to give back. Please support Mark Belile during this difficult time.

While Belile has health insurance, it doesn’t cover all the considerable costs. Already, the family has pulled $19,000 out of savings to cover health bills.
