Marissa Hogan: A Fighter Who Continues to Fight!

On May 13th, 2021 Marissa was diagnosed with infiltrating duct carcinoma, a type of breast cancer. Soon after she began 20 rigorous rounds of chemotherapy followed by a double mastectomy at Froedtert Hospital. The journey has been tough, to say the least. The effects of chemotherapy were intensely draining and some hiccups were encountered with low platelet levels and sickness. Nonetheless, Marissa showed us all what true strength looks like as she battled cancer and also continued to care for her three young children, Easton (age 7), Colton (age 5), and Kolbie (age 2) while periodically coming into work. She did this all with a smile and a positive attitude.

Marissa’s battle with cancer was declared won in December, 2022. She has continued to attend follow up appointments at Froedtert, and during her round of appointments in June difficult news was shared. A tumor is present on her uterus. After much discussion with her oncologist, it has been decided that she will undergo two surgical procedures this September- a hysterectomy and breast reconstruction. After tumor removal, a biopsy will be completed to determine if the mass is benign or malignant, and therefore further treatment may be warranted.

During this time there are not only significant physical costs from the procedures but also heavy financial costs. Medical bills, childcare, travel costs and all while working less hours due to the proper recovery needed after the procedure to name a few. Our hope is that financial assistance can help Marissa focus on a full recovery, instead of having to worry about the expenses of it all.
