Miss Cameroon USA 2015

Thank you for taking the time out to hear about my cause.

My name is Marienette Ngambou, I am from Bali, Cameroon and I am a contestant in the 2015 Miss Cameroon USA Pageant. I created this GoFund Me account in order to raise money (1) To support my platform of raising gynecological awareness in the west african community and (2) to finance my pageant expenses.

Educational Background:
I am a graduate of Berea College, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. I am passionate about event planning and learning about other cultures. In college I was president of the African Student Association, which gave me the chance interact with people from all parts of Africa, the African Diaspora, and the world.  While at Berea I traveled to Ghana and studied literature, art, music, and dance as part of my liberal arts education. I also part took in the Model African Union held every year at Howard University, it gave me a chance to immerse myself in other African countries social, security and economic predicaments and to learn the true meaning of peace and diplomacy. My goal was to pursue a career in Pharmacy after graduation but because of a twist in fate I am now interested in working on cancer research.

My Platform:
On September 4th of 2014, I was diagnosed with a rare type of Ovarian Cancer, Sertol-Leydig. This experience brought me close to death, but God has been by my side through the entire ordeal and provided me with the strength to endure my many  surgeries and chemotherapy treatments. This experience has also brought me very close to my family and friends, and increased my empathy towards everyone faced with a serious pathology.  This is why I decided to participate in the 2015 Miss Cameroon USA Pageant, . I wanted the opportunity to make an impact in my community through my experience.

There are many women and young girls in Cameroon and abroad who either don't have access to gynecological screenings or fail to take the opportunity to get one.  They are therefore susceptible to illnesses such as sexually transmitted infections (STIs), ovarian cysts, fibroids, ovarian and cervical cancer,  and many other  serious illnesses. I hope to promote prevention programs and volunteer with different organizations (ex. Patcha foundation, African Women's Cancer Awareness Association ) who provide these programs. Through the help and influence of the 2015 Miss Cameroon Crown, my hope is that if other women and young girls can hear my story, they too can be inspired to take an active role in raising awareness about gynecological diseases among their family, friends, and within the wider West African community both within Africa and in the Diaspora.

Thank you to everyone for the continual prayers especially to my Bali Family here in the states and abroad. Your donations will not only help a good cause they will encourage me in my fight against Ovarian cancer.

I hope to see all you supporters at the 2015 Miss Cameroon USA Pageant on @ 7pm on Saturday, June 20th 2015 in The Best Western Capital Beltway, 5910 Princess Garden Parkway, Lanham, MD, US
