Marianarchy Reno Leaps from Live to Virtual
Biannual Fundraiser to Host Virtual Event in Place of Live Festival

Reno NV: Marianarchy, the biannual Reno music festival fundraiser, will be changing formats from a two-day live event to a multi day video and live streaming event. In light of the current public health crisis, a live event is impossible; however the organizers did not want to let down the planned beneficiary and came up with a way to keep the event going as an online event. On Saturday, May 16, 2020, three hours of performances will be streamed from the Facebook event page, hosted by Jub Jub’s Thirst Parlor and The Worst Little Podcast, from 6-9pm.

Marianarchy has been a biannual fundraiser since 2004, in honor of namesake Marianne Psota. Her husband Nick Ramirez has continued to raise funds to help those in the service and arts industries affected by unexpected medical and health needs. Artists and service industry often lack appropriate health coverage in emergencies and times of need. Marianarchy has been able to help people get through those  tough times over the years, providing much needed financial breathing room.

The Marianarchy XVI beneficiary this spring is Sherry Masud, mother of Dave Masud, noted drummer for the legendary Vampirates and our lead sound tech at Marianarchy for nearly a decade. Mother of six, and career card dealer, Sherry suffered a stroke this past October 2019, severely compromising her basic motor functions. She has been through months of surgeries and physical rehab. Unfortunately, she has reached a point where her physicians find further rehab medically inadvisable. She currently is residing at a skilled nursing facility, which is obviously financially draining on the Masud Family.

The COVID19 crisis has put a huge strain on the family, not just the financial resources, but the mental and emotional reserves as well. Dave relates that when the nursing facility shut down visitations for the safety of their residents, he and his brother went to the window and called her to talk through the glass. The facility later prohibited that as well, for safety and privacy concerns, but have brought on extra staff to facilitate communications between families through video calls.

As a family who has been there for the Reno scene and punk rockers worldwide, it is the least we can do to rally behind them in their hour of need. Which is why we are asking for your help. We are all stretched thin right now, many of us to our breaking points. But if there is one thing the Reno underground and local community has proven over the years, if there is one thing that Marianarchy stands for, it is that we all get through this together. We all win when we support one another. We take care of our own.
