Mariachi Aztlan de PHS Learns From Mariachi Cobre

Donation protected
My name is Christina and I am a parent of a member of Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo High School in Tucson, AZ.

If you have not heard of Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo High School before let me tell you a little bit about them:

The award-winning Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo was founded in the fall of 1992 as a curricular component within the Pueblo Magnet High School Performing Arts department by Mr. Richard Carranza. Celebrating their 31st anniversary this year, they are comprised entirely of Pueblo Magnet High School students ranging in age from 14 to 18 years old. Students entering the performing group must, after audition and acceptance, maintain a high level of academic achievement. Their extensive practice and performance schedule also demands most of their free time. The twenty five-piece Mariachi Aztlan is motivated by pride and dedication to their cultural heritage of Mexico. The group plays authentic mariachi music, arranged, and conducted by director, John Contreras, himself a mariachi musician with over thirty years of experience. Dressed in their elaborate traje de charro outfits, the group boasts a repertoire of traditional mariachi music. As Tucson’s most popular youth mariachi, they have gained a reputation for excellence, and they are constantly looking for ways to continue learning and perfecting their art.

Mariachi Aztlan has received the great opportunity to join the world renowned Mariachi Cobre in June of 2024 in sunny Orlando Florida for an exclusive mentorship program where they will learn one-on-one with the professional group. We are asking for the Tucson community, and anyone else that would love to support this group of very talented high schoolers, to please donate to this fundraiser so we are able to get every single member to Florida next year and cover all their travel, food and board expenses.

Mariachi Aztlan has recently returned from representing the state of Arizona in the 2023 Independence Day Parade in Washington DC and they could have not done it without all the wonderful donors and help from the community. With this new opportunity to join Mariachi Cobre in Orlando, we are once again, humbly asking our community to support this next adventure for Mariachi Aztlan. Our youth are the future and the future is looking quite bright with Mariachi Aztlan de Pueblo HS.
