Maria Kritzas -Glioblastoma

Donation protected
Maria Kritzas was diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma Multiforme in April of 2017.  At the time it was devastating news, but Maria swore she would do everything she could to fight this disease and spend her remaining time doing what she loved, being with her family and 1st granddaughter, Stella.  Now, we all are facing the reality that Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain tumors for which there currently is no cure. It has been heartbreaking to see an individual who has worked tirelessly her entire life to be diagnosed with such an aggressive and dangerous disease in which she did not deserve. For 13 months she has battled this disease with everything she's had and it just was too much.

Since her diagnose in 2017, Maria has undergone two brain surgeries to remove the tumor (May 2017, March 2018), radiation, chemotherapy, and numerous other drugs to help battle this disease along with its side effects; mainly seizures and paralysis. She has also been traveling monthly to her oncologists in MUSC in Charleston, SC and National Institute of Health (NIH) in Bethasda, MD for the past year.

During her latest trip  2 weeks ago to NIH for a follow up from her latest surgery (3/30/2018), it was made known to Maria and her family that again the relentless tumor has already returned.  All the hope and extra time we were hoping to have with Maria after this second surgery just disappeared in front of our eyes.

Since finding out the news of the tumors return, Maria has decided that she will no longer fight this disease. She hardly had many options being that it had returned for a 3rd time, and the only clinical trials were possible but had very extreme side-effects.   Currently, Maria is on hospice in her home trying to enjoy her remaining time comfortable, painless, and with her family and friends who she loved the most.

I will answer any questions you have about the details of this fundraiser...but please, please give generously now to help Maria and her family during this horrible time!  Time is passing quickly and your donations will ease the families mind from the loss of wages of her business, the piling up of travel and medical bills, costs of treatment, medication, and funeral expenses, etc.... George, Maria's husband has already closed the restaurant (Acropolis Pizza) for a few weeks to take care of her and enjoy the last few moments of Maria's life. However, as of last week he had to reopen Acropolis Pizza in need to help pay off some of the expenses that steadily are coming in.
