Maria Hernandez Medical Recovery

Several weeks ago, Maria Hernandez was having a severe ear-ache and dizziness while working outside.  Maria works in landscaping at Daniel Island Club and her husband Cris handles the tennis maintenance at the club.  As the day progressed, the pain worsened so she asked Cris to take her to the doctor.  Shortly after the hospital conducted multiple tests and scans, Maria suffered an immediate brain aneurysm.  The CT Scan showed large amounts of bleeding on and around her brain.  Maria was rushed to MUSC where she was luckily put in the hands of our own Dr. Julio A. Chelala (DI member and local neurosurgeon).  Maria went into surgery and they were able to alleviate a lot of the pressure and bleeding on her brain.  


Cris sat by Maria’s side the entire week she was at the hospital as all of us prayed for her well being.  Luckily, Maria was allowed to return home recently with a lot of medical supervision and help from her family.  The doctors are hopeful that everything was loosened and removed from Maria’s brain trauma.  She is slowly beginning to walk again and will have a long road to recovery ahead.   


Cris and Maria need the help of our community. They are currently faced six-figure medical expenses with little to no insurance coverage.  If you can find it in your hearts to make any donation, large or small, it will make a big difference for the Hernandez family. Your donation will help to pay for the surgery, additional procedures/treatments, rehabilitation costs, and other unexpected expenses.

For those that don't know me, I am Rick Pylant, a friend of Cris and Maria's and the admisitrator on this account.  I am from Daniel Island where they both work.  Again, these donations will be sent to them from GoFundMe either as a check or direct deposit to help offset Maria's medical bills and continued rehabilition.  Cris is set as beneficiary and will be withdrawing the funds for her expenses.
