Marathon for Marty: Raising funds for the ILFA

I'm raising money to benefit Irish Lung Fibrosis Association, and any donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

Who am I doing this for?

Marty Meyler, my dad, passed away late in 2023 from COVID-19. Dad fought as much as he could but, having also spent many years battling an interstitial lung disease, it was simply too much for him in the end.

Dad loved life and I have very fond memories of waiting for him at the finishing line of races in the 80's so I know he'll run this one with me.

What am I doing?

I have signed up to run the Pettitt's SuperValu Wexford Half Marathon on Sunday 21st April, 2024.

This will be my second ever Half Marathon, having completed my first in early October thanks to loads of support and advice I got from Dad.

What is the ILFA?

The Irish Lung Fibrosis Association (ILFA) is the national patient organization that supports patients and their families living with lung fibrosis. ILFA provides research, education and support for lung fibrosis patients and healthcare professionals in Ireland.

What is Lung Fibrosis?

IPF is a progressive lung condition where fibrosis or scarring causes the alveoli (air sac) in the lung to thicken and harden. The fibrosis or scarring interferes with the normal transfer of oxygen from the alveoli to the blood stream and results in low levels of oxygen in the blood and shortness of breath. Lung fibrosis also called pulmonary fibrosis, is a serious and life-limiting lung condition that occurs in adults and results in progressive scarring of the lungs which makes it difficult for patients to breathe.
