While still feeling quite shocked about all of this, on January 9th of this year my mom was diagnosed with an invasive form of breast cancer. As many of you know, her life has never been easy, but she's always been a fighter. And the grace, strength and grit that have carried her through life, will get her through this as well.
My mother has always been dedicated to me and my three siblings, and it has been amazing to see her as a grandmother sharing that love and dedication to my two children. In the past 10 years, she has also been committed to a healthy lifestyle – devoted to clean eating, supplementation, cleansing, detoxifying and making all the smart choices that are supposed to prevent this horrible disease. Her organic living and zero history of cancer in our family, makes this diagnosis even more shocking! But, just as she has always done, she's ready to face this head-on so she can continue moving forward – stronger than ever!
My mom is also one of the toughest people I know. As a single mother raising 4 kids on her own, she sometimes had to work 2 to 3 jobs to make ends meet. She gave birth to 3 out of her 4 children with NO pain meds (by choice)! When she was in labor with me, the doctors had to inform her when she was contracting because she was barely bothered by the pain. However, sometimes those of us with a tough exterior and really high tolerance for pain are most pained when asking for help. But she needs it – we need it – and we appreciate the support now, more than ever. Our goal is to help relieve some of her financial stress as she undergoes treatment with her family in Chicago over the next several months. All donations will directly help my mom cover costs that are incurred during her treatment and recovery so she can solely focus on her health and well being.
