Manzo Family Fire Fund

A pre-dawn fire destroyed the east-Redding home of Matilde and Jesus Manzo on December 9, including all the couple's belongings, and those of their daughter and her two children, all of whom lived in the same house.
The Manzo daughter and her children were able to escape through a bedroom window, but her parents, in another part of the house, were trapped inside and were rescued by the Redding Fire Department. Matilde and Jesus, both 66 years old, were taken to Mercy Medical Center, and then airlifted to the burn unit at UC Davis Medical Center where they are being treated for their injuries, including severe smoke inhalation.
The Manzo family is beloved in the Redding community, and is best known for La Cabana Mexican Restaurant on Market Street in downtown Redding, where many of the couple's seven children and 19 grandchildren are employed.
The Manzos have worked hard for everything they have. It's not their way to ask for help. They have no part in the creation of this fund. Prayers are the only request from the Manzos, and that the first responders who saved their parents know how grateful they are.
This GoFundMe account is a result of the outpouring of community concern and love for the Manzo family, and inquiries by scores of people seeking ways to help.
Funds raised here will assist the Manzos with immediate expenses that may not be fully covered by insurance. It's a tangible way for those of us who care deeply for this wonderful family to help them during their darkest hours in a year that has already mightily tested them and challenged them.
And now, this terrible fire, barely two weeks before Christmas.
