Mango Man needs your help.

Hello, I'm Tony Roman, and Thony "The Mango Man" Clarke is one of my closest friends. If you've lived in Madison, WI for any length of time, chances are, you'll recognize The Mango Man.

Thony Clarke is a small minority business owner. He runs the Cafe Costa Rica food cart and catering and produces a small, yet growing, line of Mango Man Sauces.

On July 8th, 2022, while on his way back from stocking up at Restaurant Depot, a restaurant supply store in Monona, WI, Chef Thony was involved in a serious car accident.

Chef Thony's GMC Yukon was hit with enough force that it flipped three times before finally landing on it's side. First responders on the scene repeatedly let the Mango Man know that it was not only a miracle that he was alive, but that he managed to escape without any life-threatening injuries.
Chef Thony is currently dealing with some haziness surrounding his memories from the day of the accident.

CHEF THONY NEEDS YOUR HELP
Chef Thony's GMC Yukon was destroyed as a result of the accident. A brand new generator, purchased through grant money is no longer usable. Many of his prized chef's tools, including a number of his Chef's knives, were damaged or lost.

Sadly, the timing of this accident could not have been worse. Chef Thony was on his way back to FEED Kitchens after filling his Yukon in preparation for both events this weekend as well as for the four day La Fete de Marquette festival starting on July 14th 2022. While he was able to salvage some of the goods from his Yukon, most of it was damaged or lost.

How can we help Chef Thony?
At this time, Chef Thony has three primary needs.
  • A new vehicle for towing his Food Cart to events. His food cart is a custom-built, over-engineered beast of a trailer. It requires a tow vehicle with an increased towing capacity. This makes these vehicles hard to find, especially on the used market.
  • A replacement generator. Chef Thony had just purchased an ultra-quiet inverter generator which was damaged and is currently not running as a result of the accident.
  • Replacement supplies, tools food and ingredients for his upcoming events.
  • Resources to hire part-time help to assist with upcoming events. It is doubtful the Mango Man will be at 100% in time to prepare for the start of La Fette de Marquette, let alone be fully recovered in time for opening day on July 14th 2022.

Between struggling over the past 2+ years during the pandemic and now losing as much as he has, the Mango Man could use our help in getting back on his feet.

How did you come up with this amount?
I'm hoping this amount will help Chef Thony at least get back on his feet and be able to get through the summer. Having been in a car accident myself a few years back which left me unable to work for a couple months, I know just how staggering the challenges my friend Thony may have to deal with. I'm hoping this will be enough to help get him through things until the insurance situation related to the accident can be resolved.
