Manaswini's Fight Against Cancer

Mrs Manaswini Voora, a 24 year old who lives in New Zealand. She is 26 weeks pregnant with a due date of December 2017, and is currently fighting for her life. In mid August 2017, Manaswini went to the emergency room with severe back pain. Shortly after, she was diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer (adenocarcinoma) with spread of tumors to her spine. She was also diagnosed with a blood clot in her leg and lungs. Her tumor is being tested to determine if targeted therapy is an option. Her cancer treatment (targeted therapy or chemotherapy) cannot begin until her baby is delivered. Doctors have administered a steroid injection to promote fetal lung maturity so that she can undergo a C-section in the next couple of weeks. Decision regarding timing of delivery is complicated since there are multiple issues to consider- viability of the baby, Manaswini's recent blood clot which increases the risk of surgery, and need to start treatment for her cancer (which cannot begin until the baby is delivered).

This is an incredibly tragic situation given the extent of Manaswini's incurable cancer, and the fact that her baby may not survive.

Manaswini is the dear wife of JK. She is a daughter, a sister and a friend to many.

Manaswini and JK have had an impact on all of us as friends, family, or colleagues. It is our chance to show them how much we all care.
