Unexpectedly, Mama's health and vitality took a turn for the worse last week. For a while she has been fighting a battle, very few of us knew about, as her sharp grin and concern for others always overshadowed what she was experiencing personally.
That is how she greeted so many of us at the door of her "in the know" spot 1st ave and East 62nd St., Via Oreto, (since closed) that had Mama's Meatballs, "the best in town". Even better than the paper thin cutlet, or veal shank was her wit, and the enormous pride that she had in serving her much loved clientele for years.
Quietly and privately fighting a battle with renal failure, Mama, as many know and refer to her as......just Mama! would kill us if she knew we were reaching out for help, on her behalf, but her later in life care is financially devastating to her family, not to mention the invitable after life expenses, that her loved ones will soon be facing.
Today, MAMA, (has to be in caps, as she is and will always be larger than life) has now been transferred to Hospice at Calvary Hospital under the loving watch of her family and close friends, and dedicated staff. We assure you that the Salvaggio family thank you whole heartedly for your generosity and thoughfulness, at this heart-breaking time. What ever you can do to show your kindness, and love for Mama, would be greatly apprciated, as we pledge to make her last days on earth as wonderful as she made our everyday. If you do not have the wear-with-all to financially help, could we please ask that you take a momemt to pray for MAMA, Marie Salvaggio, and her family at this time. I am pretty sur that GOD knows her as MAMA.
Thank you in advance,
Dear Friends of MAMA.
