Malnourished Children in Zambia

Hi everyone,
My friend and I spent a few months working at the NGO Ranchhod Community Services and Hospice as future social workers for its different projects. During this time we got in touch with malnourished children. After some time working closely with the children and their mothers , we recognized that there is a variety of causes for the children`s malnutrition:
-HIV/AIDS infections have a big impact on the mother`s health status and allows her to only breastfeed for up to six months. This is often the fundament for the child`s bad nutritional status.
-the econmic situation makes it difficult for most families to buy the expensive nutritional supplements for their babies.
-The parent`s low level of knowledge and education concerning hygienic and nutritional matters.
For these reasons we decided to extend the NGO`s Feeding Program: we want to enlarge the number of children and mothers, support them with protein enriched food (milk powder and HEPS) and we want to ensure further education through workshops for the parents, especially in the fields of hygiene, nutrition and health.
We called the project "Salifyanji".
Up to now the government of Zambia is not supporting local hospices. Therefore the Project Salifyanji for malnourished children can only be realized if enough donors are found. With 15.000 Euro we can help 20 children and their mothers, we can support them with food on a weekly basis and start training the mothers through monthly workshops.
Every donation will be highly appreciated! We also ensure that all the funds will be used entirely for the purposes of the Project Salifyanji.
